76.2x101.6 cm ~ Painting, Oil
This work was born from a deep need to fuse my face with the emotional geography that inhabits me. Through layers of texture and pigment in earthy tones, ochres, browns, and whites, I allow a figure to emerge that is not only mine but also belongs to those who share a history of exile and memory. The eyes, heavy with introspection, hold a gaze that reaches beyond the present; the eyebrows, traced with intention, evoke the silhouette of Cuba, turning my face into a lyrical map where identity intertwines with collective pain.
The nose, firm and central, acts as a compositional axis, as if it were the point of balance between what remains and what transforms. The rest of the face dissolves into a transition, as though the skin itself were merging with the background, revealing emotions that need no words. This work is not merely a portrait: it is a visual verse, an intimate confession that connects my existence with a fragmented homeland. It is my way of saying that even in loss, the trace endures.
